Brief recap of the Summer Reading Program. The mellowness of the program was perceived as a good thing.
There was a brief discussion about the online book club, and it was suggested that in person meetings might be helpful instead of solely having it online. A Jr.High and High School book club could have meetings back to back for a short period of time (45mins) to give people a chance to meet in person as well as participate online. Eva is taking this under consideration for 2011. Suggested titles were Number the Stars by Lois Lowry and Charlie St. Cloud.
Suggestions were given for future Teen Movie Afternoons: Twilight, A Haunting in Connecticut, 9, Land of the Lost. Eva asked about a possible tie-in for Teen Read Week, and GLEE was the most preferred idea, but it is not a movie. Eva will try to find out more information. Preferred movies were Across the Universe and Cats Can't Dance (to tie to the music theme).
There was a discussion about the upcoming Teen Read Week in October. Eva has noticed in the past that Teen Read Week always coincides with WHS homecoming. This has made doing a special event rather difficult. Those in attendance agreed that most HS students were focusing on homecoming and Halloween, and between the two they weren't looking for anything else during the month. More than the idea of something special for Teen Read Week - those in attendance really liked the idea of a Halloween theme'd event. Ideas and suggestions were to show a movie: Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, etc. and to have mini-pumpkin carving, or some other festive craft.
This lead to the question of regular craft events - and while those present liked the idea in general, they thought that most people wouldn't attend. It was suggested that there be more craft ties to already established events, such as the Anime Club.
Eva asked how those present felt about the teen fiction hardcover's and teen fiction paperbacks being separate and if they felt that it would be more helpful or them to be interfiled. Everyone felt that it would be more helpful if they were interfiled.
Eva also asked how those in attendance felt about downloadable audio books and eBooks. Many felt that they would use them and they knew people who would also like to see that as a library service. Those present were very enthusiastic.
The Teen Tech Volunteer Program is getting started - Eva let those in attendance know more about the program and asked them to spread the word.
TAB members from last year asked how things were going with the different display items they had chosen last year for the teen room, as well as the magnetic wall idea. Eva will inquire.
